Plans by the NASA National Resistance Movement to have a motion establishing a people’s assembly in Kakamega County discussed were aborted after it was discovered the matter was not listed on the County assembly’s order of business.
It was an anti-climax for Siaya Senator James Orengo who led a delegation of NASA brigade to Kakamega to witness the debate and adopt the motion after the deputy speaker Soita Kasaya announced an adjournment stating failure to list the matter on business paper
delegitimized debate.
The assembly, he directed would debate the motion next Tuesday. The NASA team later held a press briefing outside the chamber where they outlined their mission and expressed confidence the motion would be adopted.
Kakamega senator Cleophas Malala, former Senators Dr. Boni Khalwale and Johnston Muthama, MPs Godfrey Osotsi and Anthony Oluoch and Miguna Miguna attended the aborted assembly session. The motion is now before the County Assembly of Kakamega for adoption and passage and Orengo said the NASA resistance movement doesn’t intend to transform into a militia, instead, they are preparing to challenge Jubilee intellectually.
It was noted that if established, the peoples’ assembly will provide residents with a platform to debate important regional and national issues including targeted electoral reforms seeking to overhaul the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to conform to proposals submitted to the elections body by NASA.
