Bungoma Governor Kenneth Makelo Lusaka on Tuesday announced his cabinet highlighting to have complied with the provisions of the constitution on principles of inclusivity with interests of minorities and gender parity.
It is however unfortunate that Persons With Disabilities in Tongaren constituency have expressed disappointments following the move by Governor Lusaka failing to include Persons With Disabilities in his cabinet citing a hindrance to accessing quality services delivery from the County government.
Led by Patrick Luchwala, chairperson of Persons With Disability in Mbakalo Division noted that Governor Lusaka would have included them in his cabinet to represent their interests. He complained the hurdles put in place to the vulnerable groups in accessing grants from the County Government.
ollowing the move by the National Government to pension retirees and funds to cater for the elderly in the community, they lamented how Persons With Disabilities tend to have hard times and being sidelined in accessing the elderly funds.
Gladys Juma, secretary of the group in Mbakalo division cited that the Persons With Disabilities in Tongaren lack access to cash transfers program in the quest to improve their livelihoods.
If the miserable life and challenges Persons With Disabilities go through in life is something to go by, then the six elected Members of County Assembly from Tongaren, area Member of Parliament Dr. John Chikati, Woman Representative Catherine Wambilianga and Governor Lusaka have the key role to ensure they access quality service delivery and funds meant to make their life worth living.
