Likuyani deputy county commissioner David Cherop has warned the 2007/08 PEV victims in the area to be wary of fraudsters moving around collecting money under the pretext of helping them get compensation from the national government.
Speaking during 53rd Madaraka day celebrations held at Kongoni secondary school ground Cherop said several people in the areas affected by the violence had fallen victims to the fraudsters.
He said the conmen were asking for between Ksh. 10,000 – 20,000 purporting to register the victims for the compensation programme so that they could benefit from the 10 billion shillings set aside by the national government.

The DCC put it clear that currently there was no any compensation programme going on for the PEV victims saying if at all there will be anything of the sort then there will be an official communication and his office be fully involved through the local administrators such as chiefs and their assistants.
He said no any individual was allowed to collect money on behalf of the government and that no victim is supposed to pay for him/her to get compensation from the government.
He asked them to work closely with security apparatus and report anybody who will ask for money pretending to help them.
