The government has funded a Kshs 44 million water project in Pokot south constituency that will help residents access clean water. Speaking at Sina village, area MP David Pkossing said the project will benefit over 30,000 residents in Tapach and Batei wards.
Pkossing said the project will be complete after five months and he urged locals to work closely with the contractor to ensure the project is successful.
“This project is supposed to take eight months but the contractor has assured us that the project will take five months since the community is willing to collaborate with him,” he said.
He said cases of water-borne diseases in the region were on an increase that’s why they decided to invest in the project.
“After five months cases of water borne diseases will reduce since residents will now access clean water,” he said.
West pokot women representative Regina Nyeris who had accompanied him, thanked the Jubilee government for rolling water projects in the region.
Nyeris said the project will help mothers who walk long distances to access water sources.
“Cases of mothers miscarrying in this county are very rampant because women walk for over 30 kilometers in search of water but with such projects the cases will drastically reduce,” she said.
She also pointed out that girls in the county will be able to attend to take care of their studies fully when such projects are unveiled in the county.
“Girls sometimes are forced to miss school to help their mothers fetch water and this has greatly affected the girl child education in the region,” she said.
