Police officers in Kitale are investigating a case where a 74-year-old Swiss woman was allegedly raped and strangled to death by unknown individuals at her rented Milimani home in Trans Nzoia County on Wednesday morning.
According to Philomena Chepkorir, 27, an employee of the deceased, she reported to work at around 8 am and found the house doors open. She also said the house was ransacked and over Kshs 300,000 was missing.
Police led by Deputy County commander of police Gerald Barasa
confirmed the incident stating the woman might have been killed by
unknown people and that the police have crucial leads they are following.
Barasa disclosed that there have been various cases of residents from
the area being attacked by criminal gangs with some killed. He said the police are aware of the incidences and the culprits will be brought to book.
He, however, pointed out that plans are underway to set up a police station in the area to try and curb the rising insecurity cases. “We, together with elected leaders and locals from the area, have plans to construct a police station to help restore order. An area of land has been set aside for the police post construction,” he said.
He further appealed to locals to work in solidarity with security agencies and report cases of insecurity within their areas of jurisdiction so that the cases can be handled effectively by security organs.
