A police officer attached to Matete station in Kakamega County was arrested for having carnal knowledge with a 15-year-old primary school girl and impregnating her.
The suspect was arrested in a lodging at Chimoi trading Centre in the company of the KCPE candidate.
The girl’s father said he learnt of the incident after one of the boda boda operators approached him and asked him to inquire if his daughter who is a standard eight pupil at Makonge primary was in school.
The father contacted one of the teachers at the school who later confirmed to him that the girl had not reported to school.
According to him the daughter left home for school early in the morning in the company of her young brother who is in standard four and he was shocked to be informed that she had not reported to school.
The boda boda operator later directed him to one of the lodgings at Chimoi trading center where he was shocked to find the police officer with his daughter in an incident that attracted tens of residents.
Officers from Matete police station reached the scene and managed to rescue their colleague from the flaring tempers from members of the public.
The girl was later taken to Matete health Center for medical examinations where it was confirmed that she was four months pregnant.
“My fears are that the suspect may be set free because he is a police officer, I would like concerned authorities to help me get justice because my daughter’s future has been messed up by this man, he should be made to pay for his actions, ” said the victim’s father.
Makonge primary school headteacher Robert Mandila wondered how an office obligated to protect the pupil ended up doing such a heinous act fully aware the girl was a minor.
The girl is one of our top performing candidates having scored 320 marks in the last assessment test we had recently, she is very promising and we had a lot of hopes in her,” said Mandila.
Matete sub county director of education Mr. Tom Oluoch said it is clear that the suspect has been having an affair with the pupil for a long time.
“We were surprised to learn that the pupil was impregnated in July by the suspect who continued to see her until he was caught,” said Oluoch.
Matete Police Commander Moturi Ototo, who was out of the station confirmed the incident saying the law will take its cause in the matter.
According to Mr Ototo, the suspect, identified as Kevin Mutheu will be handled like any other criminal and should not expect any special treatment from the police his position notwithstanding.
