Police officers in Nandi have been called upon to stop harassing boda boda operators and collecting bribes from them at the road blocks. Speaking in Kapsabet town after calming down rowdy motorists who were protesting police harassment, Nandi Governor Stephen Sang urged the security officers to be on the fore front of providing safety to the public instead of hurting them.
He decried the mistreatment meted on boda boda operators at the road blocks where they take Kshs 50 bribes, and urged the Nandi County police commander to look into the matter and take action. “Why do you protect errand police officers that tarnish the name of the police service instead of taking action?” he posed.
The boda boda riders were protesting after a police vehicle hit their colleague along the Kapsabet-Kisumu highway, and his motorbike was taken away.
