Police officers in Soy Sub County are hunting down three suspects in connection with the growth of marijuana at the border of Kakamega and Uasin Gishu Counties.
Soy Sub County Police Commander Fanuel Nasio said police officers attached to Soy station led by the OCS Fanuel Onyango who were on a crackdown on illicit brew and other drugs raided the compound of a primary school teacher within Soy township where they found bhang estimated to cost over Kshs 200,000.
He said the officers destroyed hundreds of marijuana stems growing on a section of a collard green ‘sukuma wiki’ plantation.
“Acting on tip-off from members of the public, the officers raided the compound of Mrs. Philis Makomere where they found and uprooted the cannabis which had been planted in the middle of a sukuma wiki plantation,” explained Nasio, adding that on searching the house the officers found several rolls of bhang and tools used in packaging the rolls.
He said the owner of the compound was not present at the time while her employees, who managed to escape, are being pursued so that action can be taken against them.
The SCPC has issued a stern warning against consumption of outlawed drugs, vowing to beef up government’s efforts against the vice in the area.
