Police officers in Matungu sub-county of Kakamega county have recovered a firearm reportedly lost in a bar brawl in Matungu involving a bodyguard to the Kakamega governor Wycliffe Oparanya and country government askaris at a home of one county enforcement officer.
The firearm, a Ceska pistol loaded with fourteen rounds of ammunition was recovered on Sunday night at the home of Robinson Wanzala Mandu, 27, in the Harambee area, twelve hours after its license holder reported losing it in a vicious bar brawl at Finito Bar at Harambee market.
According to a police report, Wanzala yielded to pressure and led detectives and county enforcement officers involved in the search to a shallow hole dug within a banana plantation near his home where they recovered the fully loaded lethal weapon.
Police constable Joseph Manyasa Andeso who is attached to Kakamega governor reported losing the weapon at Finito bar in Harambe market at around 9.30 pm on Saturday night. He walked into the bar 45 minutes earlier and was joined by an unidentified number of county enforcement officers.
However what was meant to be a good time for workmates degenerated into uncontrolled disagreement and shouting match that ended in a physical confrontation.
The officer reportedly lost the firearm and promptly reported the theft to the Harambee police station in Matungu and was arrested and locked as the police officer swung into action to recover the weapon.
