The Kenya Private Sector Alliance Foundation (KEPSA) in partnership with National Police Service (NPS) and China Embassy are set to redevelop Kilimani police station in Nairobi. This will be a three-year project that will be implemented in phases aimed at transforming the station to be a model police station with modern facilities to be replicated in other counties.
According to the Inspector General Joseph Boinnet, they intend to create a conducive environment for the officers and better community security and welfare. “The station will be designed as a model public police station for Nairobi City County and the East Africa region. Master-planning will be done on the existing 5-acre parcel of land where the modern facilities will be developed in two phases,” said Boinnet.
The facility’s construction will require a lot of capital to be fully put up, according to Boinnet. The budget of the project is Kshs 500 million; for the phase 1 of the project, it’s estimated the cost will be Kshs 300 million, while the second phase will cost an estimated Kshs 200 million.
The Officer Commanding Police Division (OCPD) Kilimani, Peter Kattam said insecurity remains one of the biggest challenges in the city, adding that security will be the top priority once the facility is ready. “We are working with the government, partners and advocates to provide quality services to Kenyans,” he said.
The facility will be well equipped to provide quality services. Subsequently, in the spirit of Private Public Partnerships (PPP) the project seeks to bring on board the business community residing around the police station to help in joint problem solving and bridging the resource gaps.
