Leaders have been urged to refrain from toxic politics. The appeal has been made by Amukura catholic parish priest Danstan Epalat who has regretted that there are politicians who have embarked on preaching hatred among Kenyans, “Nowadays when you read newspapers, watch television and listen to radios you hear politicians speaking words which are aimed at dividing Kenyans, words which are like the spikes of a petrol trailer battery which if slightly tampered with, produces spikes and explodes into flames and consume everybody around.”
During his sermon at the burial of Mrs. Grants Oramis Etyang at Kamarnyang village in Teso south sub county, Epalat called on the leaders to preach peace and unity in the country and endeavor to solve problems affecting Kenyans including poverty and unemployment.
He also decried increasing vices of corruption in the country which he attributed to selfishness among leaders, “The Corruption we see in the country is because of selfishness of our leaders. People who engage in corruption do so because they don’t care about others. They only think about themselves and not anybody else. Let us pray for them so that they change and care about others also.”
Epalat joined area MP Geoffrey Omuse and Amukura Central ward MCA Moses Ouma to eulogize the late Granda Oramis as a selfless woman who contributed immensely to the growth of the society, “She was a true reflection of a christian who adhered to bible teachings. A christian who thought about others first before herself, one who brought together the whole family and took good care of all children including those that were left by their mothers. As we bury her today, let us emulate her in our lives.”
