Travelers crossing River Chepera along the Lomut-Chesegon road in Central Pokot Sub County Sub County, West Pokot County are faced with a challenge posed by ongoing heavy rainfall in the area. A bridge which was swept away by floods, landslides last year is still being renovated.
Kapenguria member of parliament Samuel Moroto who was crossing the bridge from Chesegon area called on the government to speed up the construction of the bridge to allow easy movement of people and goods.
Farmers and even local entrepreneurs have faced a hard time supplying their goods to customers with farm produce like fruits being spoilt due to lack of bridges and dependable roads. “The lack of bridges on many rivers in the County has troubled residents,” said Moroto.
“Lack of bridges over many rivers in the County had given trouble to people,”he said.
He further pointed an accusing finger at the national government for neglecting residents of the area. He added that a lack of proper bridges and roads may hinder transportation of goods,therefore,affect the County’s economy.
