Popular Ugandan rapper, Keko quits music
The popular Ugandan rapper Keko the ‘Make you dance’ hit artist, has announced her exodus from music recording. Her fans got the information through her twitter account.
This is what she wrote: “Love from Venus will be my last works, I am sorry if I have disappointed anyone but after long thought I feel it’s for the best”.
Her news of quitting music was met with lot of disbelief as many of her fans urged her to remain in the game. One of her fan said, “Keko, I don’t believe you. You didn’t choose music, music chose you’’ Another one said, “No waaay you can’t be serious.”
Despite the discontent from her fans she went ahead and thanked them for the support they have given her since she entered into music industry.
“Yes I am retiring from recording music; I hope my last mark in music will add value to the legacy. Thank you for being supportive and buying my music” she wrote.
Keko (born Jocelyne Tracey Keko) took over the music scene in Africa in the year 2011. Her rise to fame began in 2010 with the release of ‘fallen heroes’ which she appeared alongside other established Ugandan artists like Don MC, SP, DAVIS and also the mwamba children choir.
After spitting arguably the best verse on the track, Keko began to turn heads with her lyrics, delivery and presence on tracks. Her break through single ‘How we do it, took the Ugandan charts and MTV Africa by storm making her an instant household name in East Africa.
In the recent past, the Kenyan gospel songster Bahati closed down his social media accounts after disclosing to his fans that he had quit music fully.
Many of his fans were got with shock only for Bahati to come back with a new hit “itakuwa sawa” such announcements of quitting music by big artists are not taken serious of late and it is now believed that artist use such as a marketing tool.
