The Bukusu sub tribe is the largest of the Luhya community according to the recently released Volumes of the 2019 Population and Housing Census. The Bukusu make up 1,188,963 of the total Luhya population of 6,823,842. They are closely foLlowed by the Maragoli who are 334,926. The Luhya community is ranked as the second most populous in Kenya, after the Kikuyu, who are 8,148,668 in number.
