Prayers at Afraha mockery to IDP’s – Wetangula
Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetang’ula today termed the prayer rally organised by the Jubilee coalition to celebrate termination of ICC cases as a mockery on the victims of the Post-election Violence.
Speaking at Namanjalala Kwanza constituency during the burial of the late Simon Kituyi at Bikeke Kiminini constituency in Trans Nzoia County, Mr. Wetang’ula said it is hypocritical of President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto to hold thanksgiving prayers when their government has compensated victims of the violence selectively.
He said the said prayer rallies has no meaning terming the compensation to victims who were affected in the post election violence has been done favoring a certain clique of tribes leaving out others disclosing that so far Kshs. 25 billion has been paid out of which Khs. 19 billions gone to compensate only two tribe.
He said Trans Nzoia county has 11,000 internally displaced persons with Bungoma having 8,000 IDPS but following a list that was brought in the senate where he seats as a minority leader, he learnt that the government has gone ahead in paying those IDPS from Naivasha and Nakuru who were paid Ksh. 400,000 and built houses for them but done little in paying IDPS in Trans Nzoia and Bungoma where the said IDPS from the two counties were only paid Ksh. 10,000 terming it a mockery by the National Government in distribution of funds that was meant for the IDPS.
He appealed to the Government to resettle those IDPS who were evicted from their farms and are staying away from them so that they continue staying harmoniously as they used to stay before.
“There are IDPS who were evicted from their original farms and have not gotten time to get back to their farms, farms were not burnt, they have their farms, let the Government resettle back those IDPS who were evicted from their farms”, said Wetangula.
The Bungoma senator alleged that the Jubilee coalition had favored IDPs from certain communities in the compensation plan at the expense of those perceived to be allied to the opposition.
He said as the opposition, they are prepared to make sure that the Government under the leadership of President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto delivers on the promise it made to Kenyans during the last elections and they will not rest until they see the Government deliver on the pledges it made to its people.
In an apparent swipe at Kakamega governor Wycliffe Oparanya, the senate minority leader dismissed claims that his Ford Kenya party does not have a national following as compared to ODM.
He condemned the attack meted on him during his presidential launch campaign by goons he said was supporters of Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya at Kakamegas Muliro Gardens where his meeting was invaded by hooligans who lobbed teargas canisters at the podium he was sitting with his supporters interrupting the session for some time before the meeting carried on again.
He said the Governor is not settled because he has seen his seat is almost being taken by Kakamega senator Dr. Boni Khalwale who has openly said he was going for the gubernatorial seat of the county through Ford Kenya party.
He said he was going nothing short but for presidency of this nation and was in CORD to stay saying he has capacities to trounce his competitors who are also Cord-co principals Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyokai in the nominations that will be held within the oppositions coalition.
The Ford Kenya leader however appealed to the youth and residents to register for Identification Cards and use the opportunity to register as voters in big numbers saying the county has more than 350 thousand persons without identity Cards and voter’s cards.
He called upon the chiefs to avoid asking many questions applicants of the vital documents but ensure that the right Kenyans are given such documents without delay as it was only in Transnzoia that is having so many issues when it comes to matters of ID card issuance.
Kiminini MP Dr Chris Wamalwa said time has come for former Prime Minister Raila Odinga to support Mr. Wetang’ula’s presidential bid as payback to the Luhya community which supported his father.
He said Luhyas and especially Bukusus were the first persons to vote for the father to the former Prime Minister Raila Odinga Oginga Odinga in the year 1992 and it was time now that he has to reciprocate by telling his people to vote for a Luhya and especially Ford Kenya Leader Moses Wetangula.
The Kiminini legislator extended an olive branch to other leaders especially in the western region to rally behind Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetangula terming him as the person who has shown interest in the top seat of this country.
Wamalwa said it is time for the Luhyas to speak in one voice and avoid divisive politics that has been used by other politicians from outside the region to get votes from the vote rich region.
“I call upon all leaders from western region to work as a team and vote as a block so that we are respected by other people from outside this region who have tendency of coming to rip off the votes from the region”, said Wamalwa.
He said as leaders from the region have failed the residents for long for having allowed themselves to be divided by people from outside western region.
He furthermore called upon the Government to compensate those post election violence victims and appealed for national reconciliation amongst all the tribes that is staying in the country saying that all leaders should be involved in the call for peace and reconciliation.
His sentiments was echoed by Kwanza Mp Ferdinand Wanyonyi who wanted all the leaders to work together in realization of peace and unity that is vital for the citizens of this country and called upon all the leaders to swallow their pride and work together towards realization of peace and unity of this country.
