President Uhuru Kenyatta has stressed the importance of the National Prayer Day, saying that the day exists to communicate with every individual the need for personal repentance, prayer and intercession for leaders and families. President Kenyatta said this in a National Prayer ceremony which was conducted in Nairobi and brought together religious leaders as well as foreign diplomats.
The theme for the prayer meeting was ‘Unity and National Anthem’, “The National day of Prayer is an annual event held to invite people of all faiths to pray for the nation and we encourage participation,” said President Kenyatta. He said that the day has great significance for everyone in the country, given that it enables shows Kenyans the path of the founding fathers who sought God’s wisdom when faced with difficult situations.
Deputy President William Ruto said he is confident that the coming elections will be peaceful and said it’s a chance for Kenyans to humbly come before God and seek his guidance.
According to John Kagusha, a governance expert and a member of the prayer breakfast, the forum is designed for the political, social, and business elite to assemble and build relationships. “Am glad that the event has come a few months before the general elections and I feel we should get involved and support the annual National Day of Prayer,” he said.
