The Dusit Complex terror attack at Riverside has claimed 14 lives. Addressing the nation at State House, Nairobi, at mid-morning on Wednesday, President Uhuru Kenyatta said that the operation at the complex has ended and all the attackers have been eliminated. “As of this moment we have confirmation that 14 innocent lives were lost through the hands of the murderers, terrorists, with others injured. We are grieving as a country this morning and my heart and that of every Kenyan goes out to the innocent men and women violated by senseless violence, we wish the injured a quick recovery and as a nation we’ll continue to pray for them,” he said.
The President commended the quick response by all the security teams on Tuesday to neutralize the attackers, adding that Kenya is a nation that never forgets those who hurt its children. “We have dealt with the threat decisively and shown our enemies and the world that we as a country are ready to deal with any threat to our nation.” He also commended Kenyans who were there to offer support, and emergency crews on site and in hospitals for the role they have played in the rescue and treatment efforts.
President Kenyatta affirmed that the security apparatus will continue being strengthened in the coming days, “From the means available to the security services and judicial arms we will continue taking every step to make our nation inhospitable to terrorist groups and their networks.” In a stern message, he said the government will seek out every person that was involved in the funding, planning, and execution of the heinous act, “We will pursue relentlessly wherever they will be until they are held to account,” he said, “Throughout the breadth of Kenya and in our immediate neighborhood, multiple security efforts are underway to detect, deter and disrupt and defeat any terrorist operatives or groups.”
