President Uhuru Kenyatta has declared Saturday the 21st March as a national prayer day. In a statement, President Kenyatta has noted the need to seek divine intervention even as the government keeps on implementing different measures as Kenya seeks to deal with the spread of the coronavirus. He has said the decision was arrived at after consultations with religious leaders and other Kenyans, with the service being led by different religious leaders at State House, Nairobi, starting noon. He has urged media houses to provide live coverage.
In accordance with the directives given on Sunday including the call for Kenyans to avoid crowded places, he has urged Kenyans to follow the prayer proceedings from wherever they will be, be it places of work or at home.
“On that day, through our religious leaders, we will be asking God for His forgiveness for anything that we may have done wrong or wronged Him. On that day we shall together ask for His protection and blessing for our Nation, for our people, for the world and all global citizens. We shall ask God to abide with us, and to guide us, both in this period, and in times to come,” said President Kenyatta.
