President Uhuru Kenyatta has extended the existing Covid-19 measures for a week, and will give direction following a stakeholders meeting set to be held on Monday, 28th September. In a statement, Head of Public Service Joseph Kinyua has said the National Emergency Response on Coronavirus (NERC) has convened a conference to review the national Covid-19 response to be held on 28th September and will be presided over by President Kenyatta.
The Head of State will then give further directions to the country a day after, “It is therefore notified for the general information that his Excellency the President has extended the subsisting containment measures announced during the Eleventh Presidential Address up to Tuesday 29th September, 2020,” he said. In his 11th address on August 26th, the President had directed the extension of the 9pm to 4am nationwide curfew for a further 30 days, the closure of bars and nightclubs for a further 30 days, sale of alcohol to be allowed in licensed hotels with residence facilities.
Funerals, weddings and social gatherings were to have a maximum attendance limited to 100 people and he lifted the ban on the sale of second hand clothes. The NERC conference is set to review among other factors, charting a responsible path forward for Kenya as the nation establishes the new normal of adaptation to living with Covid-19 and outlining a strategy for building and sustaining momentum with regard to recovery and resilience in a manner that ensures that Kenya bounces back better and stronger.
