President Uhuru Kenyatta has criticized NASA leader Raila Odinga for urging Kenyans not to participate in the upcoming fresh polls. President Kenyatta said the NASA leader has no right to call for the cancellation of polls, “Even I as the President, I have no right to cancel the election,” he said. Speaking in Sirisia, Bungoma County, the President said that Raila has exercised his democratic right by withdrawing from the polls and he shouldn’t impede other Kenyans who want to vote, “Why should you stop people who want to vote?” he posed, “For you, you have exercised your right as a Kenyan and you shouldn’t block other people.”
He said that the opposition leader has his eyes set on a coalition government and that leaders should be elected by Kenyans and not through dialogue, “You want your right as Kenyans to elect leaders removed so that your leaders are elected in the boardroom, so that leaders can decide how they divide the government with the citizens’ right blocked?” he posed.
Furthermore, he said the same electoral body that the NASA leaders want to be reformed, is the same body that presided over the victories throughout all the contested seats, even those held by opposition leaders. “The NASA principal, Senator Wetangula was declared the winner and IEBC presided over his election, same to Senator Orengo who is at the forefront calling for reforms at the electoral body,” he said. He affirmed that as Jubilee, they had respected the Court’s verdict to have repeat polls within sixty days, and that’s why they are busy campaigning.
