President Uhuru Kenyatta has issued a directive freezing all new government projects until those ongoing are completed. The directive is aimed at stopping wastage of resources and the habit of government agencies abandoning incomplete projects before starting others.
Speaking at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre in a meeting that brought together all government accounting officers including Principal Secretaries, Parastatal Heads, Universities VCs and Chairmen of State Corporations on Friday, President Kenyatta said projects that may be exempt from the order will only be those aligned to the Big Four Agenda but there must be a final authorization from the National Treasury.
“Even if new projects are aligned to the Big Four they can’t be started without the authority from the CS or PS of the National Treasury,” he said. He said those who’ll set up new projects before finalizing the existing ones will be held responsible.
