President Uhuru Kenyatta is set to meet all 47 Governors on Wednesday to discuss the level of Covid-19 preparedness at the Counties. Speaking during the address to the nation on the Coronavirus on Saturday, President Kenyatta said every Governor must put in place measures that will allow inter-Counties movement and ensure the safety of Kenyans. “We have to do this with them to help each other so that people don’t carry the virus from one County to another,” he said.
This comes even as cessation of movement into and out of Nairobi, Mombasa and Mandera was extended for a further 30 days. The President said people can’t be allowed to move from a high risk County like Nairobi, and in turn spread the virus to other Counties, and that measures must also be in place to ensure Counties are well prepared and the health system isn’t overwhelmed.
He said Counties have been allocated Kshs 5 billion to enhance preparedness levels to deal with the Covid-19 and Counties must have 300 isolation beds, each, “You must have a minimum capacity of 300 beds, which can be used if cases rise in your County,” he pointed out.
