President Uhuru Kenyatta has urged leaders to work on a united front to serve Kenyans. Speaking at the burial service of the late Mzee Peter Musyoka in Tseikuru, Kitui County, President Kenyatta said party affiliations don’t matter and all leaders have an obligation to serve Kenyans, “Every leader has something to contribute, all we need is to give each other space and to recognize and respect one another…we must work together to complement one another,” he said. Many leaders were present, including Deputy President William Ruto, former premier Raila Odinga, Senate Speaker Ken Lusaka, Kalonzo Musyoka, minority leader Aden Duale, Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen among others.
The President said regional politics shouldn’t be the order of the day, and leaders shouldn’t use their backyard turfs as strongholds to keep their counterparts away, “One can’t say that he can’t go to Central region because it’s Uhuru’s turf, nothing like that.. everyone who wants votes should look for them peacefully, given that it’s his agenda that will market him,” he said. President Kenyatta said one leader can’t carry the nation alone, and they should come together to discuss issues affecting Kenyans like corruption, “No leader can say he doesn’t want to fight corruption, come and let’s work together to tackle corruption. If it’s infrastructure, no leader can oppose road renovations, electricity and water connectivity, let’s work together,” he said.
