In a powerful address at a thanksgiving event in Suba, Homa Bay County, President William Ruto urged Kenyans to unite, emphasizing that the nation’s progress depends on the collective efforts of its people.
Speaking at the celebration in honor of National Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi, President Ruto called for an end to tribal politics, asserting that such divisions have no place in modern Kenya.
“Unity is the only way to liberate our nation. With unity, everyone becomes a winner. We must stand together as the people of this great nation,” he stated, stressing that a strong and developed nation is built when citizens work together.
The President highlighted the need to move away from backward politics that have hindered the country’s development for too long. He urged Kenyans to support the recently appointed Cabinet, which he believes will steer the country towards progress.
“Let us abandon politics of regional divisions, politics of who belongs to which political parties, or which tribe,” he continued.
President Ruto also spoke about the importance of unity in supporting former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s bid to become the Chairperson of the AU Commission, saying, “We are seeking support from other African nations so that our brother Raila Odinga is elected as the Chairperson of the AU Commission.”
In a bid to unify the country, President Ruto reshuffled his Cabinet, a move that Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua hailed as a crucial step towards achieving shared and inclusive prosperity. Newly appointed National Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi expressed his gratitude to the President, promising to work with integrity and diligence in serving the people of Kenya.
Meanwhile, National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wa called on leaders to stop dividing Kenyans along tribal lines, while Minority Leader Junet Mohammed criticized Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka for attempting to self-appoint as the Leader of the Opposition, affirming that the Constitution clearly defines the role.
During his visit to Homa Bay, President Ruto also launched the Oyugis Water Project, which aims to provide reliable water supply to over 11,000 households, and inspected the construction of the Homa Bay Town Market. He assured the local fishermen that the government would equip them with the necessary tools and skills to engage in deep-sea fishing, creating jobs and boosting the local economy.
As the nation looks to the future, President Ruto’s call for unity and his focus on economic growth signal a new era for Kenya—one where all citizens have a role to play in building a prosperous and inclusive nation.
