President Dr. William Samoei Arap Ruto has assured sugarcane farmers from Western region that the sugar industry in the country and region will remain steadfast in paying farmers on time.
The Head of State said the government has deliberated on the issue of sugarcane farmers getting bonuses just like it is the case with tea farmers.
Addressing Kenyans at Masinde Muliro Stadium in Kanduyi, Bungoma County where he led the nation in marking the 61st Madaraka day celebrations, President Ruto said agriculture has been, is and will remain the backbone of the country’s economy.
President Ruto in his Madaraka day message, urged Kenyans to maintain peace and unity for the prosperity of the country.
He said the country will not go back to politics of ethnicity, personality and divisions. He added that his agenda was captured in their Kenya Kwanza manifesto is to unite Kenyans and forge ahead with development.

President Ruto used the opportunity to appreciate people of Bungoma County for voting in his government overwhelmingly in the last general elections without basing on the ethnic lines.
He assured the people of Bungoma County that the Masinde Muliro stadium that hosted this year’s Madaraka Day celebrations is not yet complete and that after the celebration, the contractor will remain on the site to ensure the stadium is complete.
He also promised that the government is going to finance the building of terminals for the establishment of the airport at Matulo. He tasked the county Government of Bungoma under Governor Kenneth Lusaka to go ahead and buy more land for the project.
