President William Ruto on Monday led a tree planting exercise across the country in Makindu area, Makueni county.
The government declared November 13 as a tree planting holiday with the aim of planting at least 500 million trees and 15 billion trees by 2032.
Each Minister will lead tree planting activities in two counties.
Environment Minister Soipan Tuya will lead the tree planting activity in Vihiga county while his colleague for Information and Communication Eliud Owalo will lead the activity in Nandi and Kisii counties.
Minister of Mines Salim Mvurya will be in Tana River and Lamu counties to lead the activity while Transport and Roads Minister Kipchumba Murkomen will be meeting in Homa Bay and Mombasa counties.
And while the ministers landed in various counties to ensure that the government’s commitment to plant 15 billion trees in the next 10 years is fulfilled, the Secretary in the Ministry of National Security, Dr. Raymond Omollo calls on Kenyans across the country to come out in large numbers to participate in the tree planting exercise.
“Kenyans are asked to come to the Chief’s office near them to take the seedlings they will plant,” said Dr. Omollo
Governors, Secretaries, County Commissioners and other senior government officials are among the people who will participate in the tree planting exercise today, Monday.
