The Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology battles are not yet over until those who have filed cases against the institution withdraw them or get a hearing from a court of law according to the Education Principal Secretary (University Education and Research) Ambassador Simon Nabukwesi who has revealed that up to 49 cases have been filed against the institution at the moment.
This has negatively impacted on appointments that are supposed to be made in the University including the appointment of a VC that has been in charge on an acting capacity for over a year now. “The Institute will remain with acting VCs as long as the Court cases are on, after which we will place an advertisement for qualified people to apply for the post,” said PS Nabukwesi.
He was speaking at MMUST where he was present to oversee the handing over of power from the outgoing acting VC Asenath Sigot to Prof. Solomon Shibairo formerly of Kibabii University. Prof. Shibairo said that he is not new to the MMUST fracas and he is ready to work with all the leaders to ensure that the University gains its status back.
Three weeks ago, Dr. Jane Mutua was appointed the chair council of the university after Jeremy Bundi’s period expired.
Also present were other members of the council including Gadi Kirago, Stephen Mutoro, Ahmed Mohammed, Connie Mogaka and the outgoing acting VC Prof. Asenath Sigot.
