Busia Governor Sospeter Ojaamong has appointed renown scholar Professor Olubayi Olubayi and six others as members of Malaba Municipality Board setting the stage for the newly created municipality to enjoy funding from the World Bank and other international lenders.
Speaking in Kakoli village in Malaba North Ward during the burial of former councilor and vice-chair of the defunct Malaba Town Council, Jane Jakaa( JJ) Awuor, Tuesday, the governor said Malaba municipality will receive more funding from the World Bank through the Kenya Urban Support Program ( KUSP).
Malaba Municipality comprises Malaba Central, Malaba South and Malaba North wards in Teso North sub-county as well as Amukura West Ward in Teso South sub-county.
Malaba Central Ward representative Bennard Papa said the new municipality has a population of 91,000 dwellers with each individual person expected to receive about Ksh. 5000 funding.
On its part, the Municipality is expected to receive about Ksh. 400M every financial year. He said the assembly committee on planning, which he chairs will fast-track the process of approval of the board members to enable them discharge their duties effectively.
The members of the board of management include Olubayi Olubayi, Chairman, Solomon Abwaku, Rose Omoit among others.
