Protestors staged a peaceful protest today in Nairobi on the wake of the graft cases witnessed in the country. The main aim of the protest was to pass the message to President Uhuru Kenyatta to step in and resolve the corruption issue, even if it means sacking all the involved individuals. According to the protestors, corruption has been persistent in the country for long now and should be dealt with. They referred to the health graft case, and the NYS saga as examples, “We want Waiguru to be jailed for misuse of funds,” said the activists.
The peaceful protest was cut short, however, when GSU officers intervened, and forcefully dispersed the demonstrators. Water tanks and teargas were used by the officers in order to tame the protest.
Several people were injured in the fracas, including a business lady who was hit by a teargas canister, leaving a business lady injured. The police also used a live bullet, leaving the bullet casing visible on the ground.
