Bungoma County women Representative Dr. Reginalda Wanyonyi has called upon leaders from the CORD coalition to stop issuing ultimatums for the selection of new IEBC commissioners, saying a due process should be followed.
Speaking after attending women Quakers conferences at Ndalu and Chwele churches, Dr. Reginalda said the IEBC is a sensitive commission and the selection of new commissioners should not be hurried lest the opposition themselves would come to complain later about their work.
She said the process of selecting them is ongoing and ample time should be given so as to ensure the right people are in office to perform their duties well before and after the next general election.
Dr. Reginalda also called upon the striking doctors and nurses to give in to negotiation calls concerning their pay, saying many people are losing their lives for lack of medical attention asserting that the issue needs to be urgently sorted out.
She added that medical attention is paramount to every human being and the government needs to also have a quick remedy to the issue saying the lives of people need to be taken care of.
Regarding the Naivasha tragedy, the women representative expressed her concern over the lack of major road signs on several roads, saying the National Transport and Safety Authority should be on toes to ensure they are erected to ensure such tragedies don’t recur in future.
“Road signs and bumps should be put in place, to encourage motorists to drive carefully as we don’t want to lose lives during the festive season and in the subsequent future,” she said.
Dr. Reginalda also urged parents to take good care of their children this festive season by offering guidance on life issues saying girls especially, are susceptible to early pregnancies which may affect their studies in school.
She also challenged members of Parliament in the County to increase bursary allocation to students, saying many students come from poor backgrounds and depend on the kitty to fund their education.
“The CDF has been reduced to cater for education and security, therefore the beneficiaries of the funds in terms of bursary need to be allocated more to ensure they don’t drop out of school due to lack of school fees,” she added.
