The voter registration turn out in Nandi is still low despite the limited time of the exercise which is slated to come to the end on 6th February 2022.
According to Nandi County elections manager Mrs. Catherine Bulinda, the turnout is very low and to date since the commencement of phase two, Nandi has registered a total of 14,289 new registered voters which is too low compared to the required target of 71,000 by the commission.
Speaking with journalists in Kapsabet, Bulinda decried the low turnout of voters in the region as failure of the leadership to mount voters to turn out for the exercise saying as a commission they have opted to take the exercise to institutions and colleges to ensure everyone is registered.
“The turnout of people in Nandi is very low and we attribute this to the failure of county political leadership to rally the public to participate in the ongoing exercise.” She revealed.
The elections manager further urged residents who have not registered as voters to utilize the remaining short period of about six days to ensure they get registered so as to be able to participate in the coming general elections.
Registration of voters so far for phase two in the region is as follows;
Tindiret- 1,469
Aldai – 1,898
Nandihills – 2,039
Chesumei – 2,045
Emgwen – 2,274
Mosop – 2,525.
