The County government of Busia under the leadership of Governor Sospeter Ojaamong has finally acquired a fire fighting Engine for Malaba Municipality to cushion residents against devastating effects should a fire incident occur.
The machine, which caused the county government a whooping Ksh.52 million, was officially commissioned by Governor Ojaamong at the Malaba dispensary grounds in Teso North Sub County.
The development follows cases of fire outbreaks emanating from trucks ferrying petroleum products along Webuye_ Malaba highway.
In his address, the governor urged area residents especially those residing along the highway to urgently report cases of fire outbreaks to the relevant authorities to cushion against devastating effects.
“We are also going to ensure the personnel employed to handle the machine are fully trained to ensure they carry out their duties effectively.” He added.

A few months ago, three trucks collided before exploding at Koteko roadblock along Kimaeti _ Malaba highway killing one of the truck’s driver on the spot.
The trucks were burnt to ashes.
Most recently, another truck ferrying diesel exploded around Achunet Bridge along Ikapolok_ Malaba road causing panic among residents.
Efforts to put off the fire proved futile because the Fire fighting Engine From Busia arrived a little too late.
The helpless onlookers only watched the lorry being turned to ashes by the ravaging inferno.
