Bungoma residents have been told to report any officer that will be spotted selling subsidized fertilizer given by the county government to farmers.
Tuuti Marakaru ward administrator Constant Masika, stated this when he was addressing farmers during a function where farmers were given the subsidized fertilizer.
“Let nobody misuse or sell this fertilizer for it will be wastage to the county, if at all you spot any county officer trying to sell the fertilizer to you please make an alarm and let us know because this fertilizer is meant to be given out freely to farmers not to be sold,” said Masika.
He said that the government has prioritized agriculture as a way of making residents life bearable thus embarking on giving farmers support to produce food that will enable them get out of poverty.
“The government has prioritized agriculture since it is the backbone of the country’s economy therefore don’t take this fertilizer for granted but use it and let it help you fight hunger and poverty that is prevalent in this region,” he reiterated.
“We have been given 400 bags of top dressing fertilizer and we have issued to 400 farmers therefore we urge farmers to check on weather changes before applying the fertilizer,” he added.
Masika also urged farmers that have benefited from that program not to sell the fertilizer they were given but use it on their crops so that they help the county in dealing with food security stating the government’s aim is to ensure that there is no hunger amongest its residents.
“Main aim of the government giving out this subsidized fertilizer is to ensure that farmers don’t strain in buying farm products therefore we decided to give out this fertilizer so that we have enough food hence fight hunger,” he added.
