Residents of Milimani village in Mautuma ward in Lugari sub county are calling for thorough investigations after several killings in the area leaving more than four people dead the latest being mama Everline Juma who sustained 3 deep wounds on her forehead after she was attacked at her shop by known person in unclear circumstances that eventually led to her death while undergoing treatment at Moi Teaching and Referral hospital in Eldoret.
Mama Evelyn was an ardent fan and treasurer of Mlimani quarry West FM Salaams club in Mautuma ward in Lugari constituency.
According to her husband Mr. Juma, his wife was in the shop at Mlimani Market when one man armed with an axe marched into her shop when she was outside with friends and started cutting her, giving her three deep cuts; 5 inches, 3 inches and 2 inches.
While addressing mourners during her burial, Mr. Juma decried of insecurity within Mautuma where people are losing lives under unclear circumstances and nothing is being done adding that he watched his wife die in his hands leaving him with the burden of raising children alone.
Her children led by her second born daughter Sabina Juma said her mother was a jovial person who always preached peace all the time and loved her family so much and appealed to the police and detectives to make sure they arrest the culprit and bring him to book and added that what devastates them is the motive behind the killing of their mother which she said remains a big question that only investigative agencies can unravel.
Their sentiments were echoed by leaders led by Peter Luta who is the ward administrator in Lurambi in Kakamega County government who said criminal acts happening in Mautuma should be stopped at all cost as residents are now living in fear and thus affecting the economy of the area.
West Media fans led by Kakamega flying umbrella chairman Chris Nyongesa said that mama Evelyn was a great leader who he worked with closely and appreciated the salaams clubs across Western for supporting the family and urged residents from Kakamega county who are not in groups to join West media groups to stir development.
Area chief Mrs. Pamela Gulali criticized parents for not guiding their children well adding that some of the criminals harassing people are very young and said parents are failing to play their parental roles and shielding their children anytime they commit an offence.
She added that most parents go to an extend of selling their pieces of land and animals to secure the arrest of their children and that has contributed a lot to insecurity in Mautuma location and its environs.
She told residents to support the government in flashing out criminals who are behind the killings taking place at Mlimani market and the neighborhood.
Stephen Mulonga, the area MCA said something serious must be done and requested the area chief to call for a baraza that will comprise of all stakeholders so that a solution can be found and stop the serial killings.
He also promised to support the education kitty for the children of the late so that they can get quality education as desired by their mother and asked parents to observe the content on TV that their children watch while alone saying a lot is happening amounting to what they watch.
