Residents cry foul of rampant insecurity
Residents of Wings, Mjini, and its environs in Bungoma town are appealing to security personnel to beef up security after several incidences of theft and robbery of motorcycles and passenger harassment witnessed in the areas.
Their plea comes after one of the senior journalists in Bungoma working for west media limited Nebert Wafula was harassed by a group of unsuspected gang that calls itself Bagdad boys, they beat and took away his belongings while the driver of the motorcycle that was carrying him ran away.
Narrating the ordeal he underwent Nebert says it was around 8.pm while coming from duty stopped a motorcycle to take him home. Before arriving at wings area, they were stopped by a person who threw a big post to hinder their way.
He says just as the driver tried looking for way to go through a group of about seven boys appeared and demanded for his phone that he willingly gave before asking for his wallet and grabbed his bag that had his working tools.
He says his submission and cooperation saved him a lot before he was thoroughly roughed up beaten on his head shoulder and injuring his knee.
It is after this incident that it was realized that such cases are on the rampage and such incidences are done even during the day.
Bungoma county commissioner Maalim Mohamed has assured the residents that investigations have started to establish the origin of the group its aims and main objectives.
He however assures that whoever will be found engaging in such incidents will be dealt with.
He has asked the residents to work hand in hand with the police and identify such gangs that are proving to be a threat to the security of others.
