The residents of Chebukuyi, Katomei and Korosiondet villages in Sirisia Sub County are an unsatisfied lot due to a water shortgae problem and have urged the County government to intervene and help them.
Speaking in Chebukuyi, the residents led by youth group leaders Mr. Lukas Mayamba and David Muchi, said they travel more than four kilometers to access clean water especially during the dry season.
“We are really suffering, we don’t have any source of clean water in this place, people normally walk to Mombe, Musemwa springs to fetch water for domestic use,” said Mr. Mayamba.
They said people are getting waterborne diseases particularly typhoid, due to consuming contaminated water which is mainly shared with animals.
The two added that as youths they have engaged in a brick making project in order to sustain themselves but it is almost collapsing due to the shortage of water, “Hiring a motorcycle to get water is so expensive, we are even operating at a loss,” Mr. Muchi said.
They have appealed to the County government of Bungoma through the Ministry of Water and Sanitation to drill boreholes in the area to salvage the poor residents.
