Residents of Webuye east and other neighboring villages have been asked to work closely with police, chiefs, village elders, nyumba kumi operatives and community policing to curb the ongoing criminal acts among them thuggery and killings that have been on high rampant in Misikhu market and its environs. Talking during the baraza at Namarambi village in Webuye east which was attended by host of leaders among them Webuye East DCC Chaka Nyamawi, Webuye East OCPD Valerian Obore, area MCA Martin Wanyonyi Pepela among other leaders, the residents led by Misikhu market chairman Mr. Edward Ndovu complained of lack of proper communication between them and the security operators.
This situation has led to escalation of security which has resulted in the killing of a security guard to the personal assistant to devolution cabinet Secretary Mr. Kizito Temba and stealing of property including animals and house hold items especially electronics. They also asked DCIO to investigate the issues they raised concerning criminals who have been disturbing the otherwise good peace that the market and its environs have been enjoying. However, they launched a complaint over some police officers whom they said could have been working with some criminals and appealed to the deputy county commissioner in conjunction with OCPD to reshuffle the police and transfer some who have worked for a long time in one station saying that could help in curbing the cases emanating from different areas.
They also appealed for the road block at Ndivisi junction in order to arrest the criminals. On his part Ndivisi MCA Martin Wanyonyi Pepela said he is ready to repair the assistant county commissioners office plus police houses at Namarambi division in order to help beef up security that has been elusive for some time now. “There is no way we can have a division headquarters without the police and therefore am going to repair some houses here to pave way for police to be brought here and as I do that the OCPD and DCC should help me get police here because we can’t continue loosing our people every day “, said hon Martin.
Tje MCA also reinforced the issue of transferring the police who have overstayed in various police stations within the sub county elsewhere and bring in others who will do their best in bringing to book all criminals who are terrorizing people. He asked the government to provide more police vehicles to help in night patrols including going to remote villages when an incident occurs. The OCPD Valerian Obore in his address appealed to the residents to work closely with the police officers and provide information that could help in arresting the criminals and also promised that soon Misikhu and Mihuu would be getting police vehicles so that they can help in movement of police. The deputy county commissioner Mr. Chaka Nyamawi welcomed the positive criticism from the residents and promised to improve where they have failed, ” I can assure you that we have noted down your grievances and we are going to work on it and within seven days there will be great improvement but we also need your support and cooperation for us to flash out these criminals.” Said DCC Nyamawi.
