The Kenya National Union of Teachers -KNUT- Second Vice Chairperson Aggrey Namisi, has urged Junior Secondary school interns to return to work while their grievances are being addressed, while also urging them to respect their employer.
“As the JSS teachers started demonstrating. We wrote a letter to the TSC requesting that all interns be absorbed into the permanent and pensionable terms. They have agreed and allocated money to absorb 26,000 interns in the budget for JSS. Therefore, I want them to go to work, and these students should also show respect. They should respect their employer; you can’t insult the employer and you have not been employed.” Noted Namisi
During an interview on Mumbo FM, in a breakfast show dubbed Kemumbo, Namisi also called on leaders to refrain from perpetuating 2027 politics and instead focus on discussing how students under the new education curriculum CBC will transit to secondary schools that lack the necessary infrastructure to facilitate learning.
“Leaders should cease engaging in 2027 politics but start thinking about now since they are not thinking on what will happen when our children are transiting to secondary schools,” he uttered
Furthermore, he encouraged Webuye East Member of Parliament Martin Wanyonyi, to follow the law of establishing TTIs so that he can also establish a technical training institute in Magemo and embrace criticism from some residents of the area.
“The only medicine of Webuye East TTI is for the MP to allocate shs.10m in the budget by purchasing a piece of land, get a title deed. By the way nobody in Webuye East Constituency does not want the TTI including those criticizing they are only doing so to show him the way,” he stated
Namisi thanked the Speaker of the National Assembly, Moses Wetangula, for assisting one of their own- a teacher- to be appointed as an ambassador by the President, while urging other leaders who get assistance from the Speaker in various positions to also hold hands for other residents without relying solely on him.
“I want to express my gratitude because my colleague who was the KNUT Executive Secretary of Bungoma South is now an Ambassador through the efforts of Speaker Wetangula. Therefore, I am urging those who are assisted by the Speaker to also help others.” Appreciated Namisi
He called on leaders to embrace politicians who lost seats in various elections, while urging residents to unite with current leaders to promote unity in the Western region.
“Leaders like the Honorable Wangamati, are still young. Let’s not criticize them too much; we don’t know what the future holds for them. Let’s not see it as someone becoming useless if they lose elections. For now, let’s support our leaders, Musalia Mudavadi and the National Assembly Speaker, Moses Wetangula. Let’s embrace them, let them guide us, and when we speak with one voice and have unity in our region politically, our political destination will be better.” he advised
He took the opportunity to thank teachers for supporting him in his leadership within the union.
“I want to take this opportunity to thank the teachers for supporting me and giving me the opportunity to represent them closely for nearly 15 years in Bungoma East as their Executive Secretary, and now teachers across the country promoted me to a national level.” said the Second National KNUT Vice Chair
He thanked former President Uhuru Kenyatta for devolving national functions in various counties, a move supported by the current President William Ruto, mentioning that four years ago it was announced that Madaraka celebrations would be held in Bungoma County, prompting the Second Governor, Wycliffe Wangamati, to begin the construction of the Masinde Muliro Stadium, adding that without initiating the project, the construction of the stadium would not have been completed in time for the celebrations.
