At least 10 people have been killed in the terror attack at Dusit at 14 Riverside, according to reports. The carefully orchestrated attack, which happened at around 3 pm on Tuesday-on the third anniversary of the El Adde KDF attack by Al Shabaab militants, has caused ripples and aroused memories of the 2013 Westgate terrorist attack.

At around 3:40 pm on Tuesday, the terrorists arrived at DusitD2 hotel, Riverside, and they threw explosives at some vehicles parked and gained entrance into the building. Explosions and gunshots were reported by people close by and messages were being sent from victims who were trapped inside the building asking for help.
CCTV footage released showed the four heavily armed assailants fearlessly securing the building as they shot anyone in sight. Police special forces arrived at the scene, led by DCI boss George Kinoti and special rescue operations commenced immediately. On Tuesday evening Police IG Joseph Boinnet urged Kenyans to be calm as the operations went on, saying they suspected it was a terror attack.

Interior CS Fred Matiang’i said by 11 pm at night, the building had been secured by the police and they were in the final stages of mopping it up and securing the evidence, “The country is now secure,” he affirmed. The rescue operations went on throughout the night with ambulances arriving at and leaving the scene, with more than 50 victims recused throughout the night. However, the fate of the attackers remains to be known, with rescue operations still underway. President Uhuru Kenyatta is also set to address the nation.
