The Sabaot community who alive in Mt. Elgon constituency in Bungoma County are a dissatisfied lot and want to be relocated to Trans Nzoia County. Led by Daniel Chemaket Chepkiring the residents lamented that they have been sidelined in matters development by the County leadership saying they have always been given a raw deal.
He said in the current budget they, technically Mt. Elgon, have only been allocated Kshs 3 million out of 3.7 billion allocated for development in the County, saying it is unfortunate and uncalled for. Mr. Chemaket further lamented that Cheptais is one of the townships that have a large population but have not been considered for the municipality status in the County as compared to Sirisia and Chwele saying moving to Trans Nzoia County will be an added advantage to the as they will have an equal sharing of resources.
He disclosed that efforts of reaching the County boss Wycliffe Wangamati to discuss matters affecting them have been futile as his office has many protocols to clear first saying it may be easier to access the President’s office compared to the Governor’s.
Chemaket said senior members from the community who were serving in various positions in the previous regime have since been deployed to junior positions saying it is unfortunate that they are not valued. Another resident, Charles Naibei, said the road network is very poor especially near the Deputy County commissioner’s residence saying the government needs to provide better services to the residents.
