Saboti disabled people get crutches & white canes
People with disabilities from Tuwani Ward of Saboti Constituency had a reason to smile when they received disability kits from the National council of persons with disability.
Speaking this during the function, a doctor who is the chief of orthopedics in Trans Nzoia County Mr. Eliakim Aduli said the council gave 40 pairs of crutches and canes for the blind within the county for free.
He called upon parents with disabled children to stop hiding them but work with the area leaders and register them so that they are captured in the register of those challenged and helped by the government.
He disclosed that the government has set aside funds for children who are challenged and appealed to those who have not registered and gotten cards to do so as the cards are vital.
MCA for Tuwani Ward Francis Daddy Were thanked the council for coming to the aid of the challenged in his ward and promised to take a motion in the assembly of Trans Nzoia that will see that interpreters to help interpret the proceedings made by MCA’s are employed within the assembly and promised that he intend the person to be a challenged person.
He furthermore pointed out that a motion is already in the assembly that was introduced by the representative for the challenged, MCA Laban Wanyonyi which seeks to see that all the buildings constructed within the county puts in mind their needs.
He promised to lobby for the MCA when the bill will be on the floor of the house so that they vote for it to make sure that it is passed.
Some of the beneficiaries Moses Aswani thanked the Government through Kitale District Hospital for having come to the aid of the challenged and called upon all those challenged to visit hospitals for checkups.
He called upon the challenged to stop being beggars in streets but to come out and fight for the opportunities that is offered by the County Assembly and the Government as he said there are special offers being given to the challenged especially if they have their registered companies, they can use them to apply for tenders.
He also appealed to them to start some small businesses and apply for funds that are now given by various institutions including uwezo, Nawiri and affirmative action so that they can use the same in changing their lifestyle instead of relying on politicians and well wishers who normally give them a small token in streets that won’t satisfy their needs.
He disclosed that some of the challenged people are used wrongly by some of their relatives who take them to streets as beggars for their own selfish gains.
“I call upon my challenged brothers and sisters to avoid these pressures of being used as beggars by their family members. I urge you to instead form groups and use them to apply money from various institutions”, said Aswani.
