In a significant move to ensure all students across Nairobi benefit from the county’s feeding initiative, Governor Johnson Sakaja has announced the expansion of the “Dishi Na County” program to include informal schools. The announcement was made during the launch of Phase 3 of the program in Umoja 1, where a new kitchen was also inaugurated.
Governor Sakaja emphasized the county’s commitment to ensuring no student misses out on meals due to the type of school they attend. “In these informal schools, we shall sit down and see how they will be mapped and included in this feeding program,” he stated.
The launch of this phase marks a milestone, with all public schools in Nairobi now receiving timely meals across all 17 sub-counties. With 17 kitchens established countywide, including seven completed just before the third term, the program has successfully delivered on its promise to provide affordable meals to students, helping improve attendance and learning conditions.
Deputy Governor Njoroge and Embakasi West MP Mark Mwenje echoed the importance of the initiative, which now serves over 310,000 students. As the program continues to grow, the county government reaffirms its commitment to student welfare, ensuring every child has access to a nutritious meal at school
