Bungoma County Governor Kenneth Lusaka has condemned the stabbing of a student from Samoya Secondary School in Samoya location and he has asked the Police to ensure that perpetrator faces the law. His sentiments were echoed by the Women representative for Bungoma County who said that the Assistant chief’s husband should also be jailed for having an affair with students.
Students from Samoya Secondary school in Samoya location, Bungoma County earlier held demonstrations to advocate for justice after their fellow student was stabbed by their area assistant chief, Mrs. Alice Wasike.
It’s reported that Mercy Wafula Wachuma, a Form Four student at the school was stabbed by the Assistant chief at her home on Sunday morning over suspicion that Mercy was having an affair with her husband, who is the Pastor of Rehema church in Samoya.
The Students took the demonstrations to the office of the Minister of Education in the county and the County Commissioners where they expressed their grievances and disappointment in the Assistant chief stating that they won’t attend classes until justice is done.
“The principle took Mercy’s phone and handed it to the sub-chief. That is when the messages between the two love birds were discovered,” said Isaac Wanyonyi, one of the students.
The school Head boy, Duncan Wanjala, stated that due to his recent illness he had not been deeply indulged with the incident. He stated firmly that the students will go back to class only after justice is done.
“It is a school of 400 students, and since it started in 1998 we have never witnessed such an incident,” added Duncan. On the day of the incident, a group of students visited Mercy in hospital but were asked to come back the following day in school uniform.
Significant sources have revealed that early last week there were misunderstandings between Mercy and Alice, a situation that got Mercy canned severely by the school’s Headteacher.
Confirming the incident, the police inspector of Kanduyi constituency, M.C Malaba urged the students to keep calm as police continue with investigations, promising that the law will take its full course after the investigations are finalized.
Mercy is still on treatment at the Bungoma Referral Hospital.
The Minister of Education, Charles Anyika stated that the case must be followed up closely saying that such incidences have intensified in Bungoma County. Members of various institutions including those that protect Women and human rights also reproached the action.
