Lugari MP Ayub Savula has accused politicians in the Kenya Kwanza alliance of plotting to lock him from accessing Moi University to get clearance from the learning institution.
Hon. Savula was picked as the running mate to ODM candidate in Kakamega County Fernandes Barasa.
The two were scheduled to present their nomination papers to IEBC in Kakamega on June 6, 2022 at 11am but the process was delayed until after 1pm after Savula failed to show up at the agreed time.
When he appeared, he claimed he had been locked inside Moi University when he went to be cleared by the University where he is said to have studied for his first and a Masters Degree.
IEBC requires that candidates contesting for the seat of Governor or President with their running mates must submit certified copies of educational qualification certificates, including a University Degree in accordance with Section 22 of the Elections Act, 2011.
A day before the presentation of their documents to the electoral agency, Hon. Savula had not been cleared by Moi University even though he was aware of the requirements and rigorous process involved.
He claimed on June 6, 2022 that when he went for certification of his degree documents at Moi University, riotous youth allegedly organized by Deputy President William Ruto and Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala blocked him from accessing the University premises.
He further alleged that his certificates got confiscated by the University and he had to go through hell before he got them back.
