Lugari MP Ayub Savula has raised concern over increased cases of livestock theft in Lumakanda and Lugari locations in his constituency.
Speaking after attending a church service at St. Thomas ACK Mufutu in Lugari ward, Savula urged security apparatus in the area to beef up night patrols in an effort curtail rampant cases of animal theft.
He disclosed that he had written to the Inspector General of police Hillary Mutyambai demanding posting of an OCS at the Frank police station in Lugari location to enable optimum operationalization of the facility.
A number of meetings comprising of locals and ward leadership in Lumakanda, Lugari, Mautuma wards and security agencies were held after residents raised concern over police complacency where suspects were allegedly set free without being submitted to the tenets of the law, a move that has now seen police officers recover 5 cattle and sheep that had been stolen.
According to the Lugari OCPD Mr. Patrick Maundu, the animals were found in Sango sub location Likuyani Sub county and a suspect from Mwamba in Lumakanda ward was nabbed and is now helping the police carry out investigations.
