The government has extended the timeline for schools’ reopening by a month, as efforts to tame the spread of the coronavirus continue. Speaking of the press at Afya House, Education CS Prof George Magoha said schools were set to resume on 4th May but that won’t happen, “In the interest of the safety and lives of our beloved children the government has extended schools closure for one month effective from date of opening.”
He said during the intervening period there may be interventions made depending on how the government will handle the Coronavirus. The CS also affirmed that both the KCPE and KCSE national exams will not be postponed.
However, he dispelled any fears that students may not be well prepared for the national exams. “I emphasize the point that whenever the examination is going to be administered every Kenyan child will have been given the opportunity to cover whatever time that is lost before the exam is administered,” said Magoha.
