The Kenya Secondary Schools Heads Association has called upon the government to consider releasing the free secondary education funds in time for all the schools so as to enable them to cater for the needs of the school for a smooth running of activities.
John Wakwabubi, the Kimilili Sub County chairman says a lot of schools are going through a rough time at the moment since many of them have not received the funds and at the same time parents are not paying school fees in time.
However, he disclosed that some schools with accounts in certain banks have received the money while others haven’t. He said the government should work on a strategy to ensure all the schools receive the money at once so as not to strain planned activities.
He further called upon the parents to ensure they pay school fees in time saying many of them have large fee arrears saying as much as they depend on bursaries from the County and National government they should work hard to also settle the remainder in due time.
Given that the school sessions are in the third term, Mr. Wakwabubi who is also the principal of Chesamisi boys’ high school called upon the institution to adhere to the Kenya National Examinations Council rules and regulations regarding the national examinations to avoid any cases of exam cheating that was witnessed in the country last year.
He said as an institution they have had ample time to prepare their candidates for the examinations, adding that they should ensure they don’t mess up in the end, given that the penalties for exam cheating are clear.
Mr. Wakwabubi further said he supports the programs initiated by the education cabinet secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i to streamline the education sector, saying he is committed to having the system run perfectly for the benefit of the children who are looking forward to filling up wonderful careers in future.
