A search operation bringing together security agencies and residents are ongoing at Chepkiit waterfall at Mlango area in Nandi County, to look for a 28-year-old lady who drowned on Saturday while trying to take a picture. Chesumei police boss Bosita Omukolongolo who confirmed the incident said efforts to retrieve the body are ongoing adding that the search entered its third day on Tuesday and is hopeful that the body will be found.
He revealed that the lady, who hails from Elgeyo Marakwet County, was in the company of his fiancee and they had toured the falls when the incident happened. She slipped and was swept away by the raging Chepkiit falls currents. He said the area is very risky and dangerous, especially during the heavy rainfall season due to the slippery rocks and called upon all the tourists and residents to stop visiting the site for a while.
He has further appealed to divers from different areas to help in the search operation. Several people have drown at the site before-situated along the Eldoret-Kapsabet road in Chesumei sub county-due to the raging waters and the slippery rocks.
