In a significant stride toward strengthening the ties between the Senate and local governance, the Senate Senior Board of Management, led by the Clerk of the Senate, Mr. Jeremiah Nyegenye, paid a visit to Busia County Assembly to evaluate the county’s preparedness for the upcoming Senate Mashinani event. Scheduled for September 23rd to 27th, 2024, this annual initiative aims to enhance the Senate’s engagement with counties and facilitate direct interaction with the public at the grassroots level.
The high-level delegation was warmly received by the Speaker of the Busia County Assembly, Rt. Hon. Fredrick Odilo Wafula, and acting Clerk Mr. Gabriel Arambo. Expressing his optimism, Speaker Wafula stated, “We are honored to host this distinguished delegation and are confident that our facilities and plans will support a successful Senate Mashinani next month.”
Mr. Nyegenye, speaking on behalf of the Senate Board, commended the county’s preparations, stating, “As we gear up for the 4th Edition of Senate Mashinani, I am pleased with the progress observed here in Busia. We are committed to ensuring this initiative’s success and are ready to dive into the final preparations.”
The visit also included a courtesy call on H.E. Governor Paul Otuoma, who reiterated the county’s support for the event. “Our collaboration with the Senate will deepen our understanding of oversight roles, particularly for the County Executive members. This relationship is synergistic, aiming to improve service delivery for the people of Kenya,” said Governor Otuoma.
With previous successful Senate Mashinani events held in Uasin Gishu, Kitui, and Turkana Counties, Busia is poised to host this year’s edition, reinforcing the Senate’s commitment to devolution and local governance.
