Senate Special sitting is set to be convened today Friday 30th December, 2022 at 2:30pm as announced by the Senate Speaker Amason Jeffa Kingi through the Kenya gazette.
The sitting is meant to give chance in the swearing in of Bungoma Senator elect David Wafula Wakoli, and Senators to deliberate on the fate of Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza.
In the first business, Bungoma Senator elect will be sworn in after he won in the Senatorial by-election that was conducted on 8th December, 2022 by garnering 66,023 votes against 10 other candidates.
Wakoli will be the second Senator of Bungoma County taking over from Moses Wetangula who won the seat for the third term consecutively and got elected as the Speaker of the National Assembly thus rendering the Bungoma Senate seat vacant.
Later, Senators are set to receive and discuss a report of the 11-member select committee that was investigating grounds for impeachment of Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza that was impeached by 67 MCAs among 69 MCAs of the Meru County Assembly.
The select committee that was chaired by Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwalwe and listened to both sides is set to present its investigative report to the Senate so that Senators may determine the impeachment of Governor Kawira Mwangaza.
